Ten days after the scandal broke, embattled Christian right leader George Rekers is remaining consistent in his story that he didn’t know the 20-year-old ”Lucien” was a male prostitute when he hired him as a travel companion.
In an e-mail Thursday to Christianity Today magazine, Rekers reiterated that he didn’t know “Lucien” was gay, and said, according to the magazine, “that his wife will be retiring soon and will accompany him on trips when their sons are unavailable.”
Rekers has found a silver lining in the scandal.
“One thing for which I am grateful is that my travel assistant openly shared his spiritual doubts with me during the trip and he did let me

share the gospel of Jesus Christ with him with many Scriptures in three extended conversations,” Rekers wrote in the e-mail.
But he also offered this apology:
“I confessed to the Lord and to my family that I was unwise and wrong to hire this travel assistant after knowing him only one month before the trip and not knowing whether he was more than a person raised in a Christian home,” Rekers said. “I also confessed to the Lord and to my family the sin of thereby putting myself into a vulnerable situation where I tragically became subject to false allegations.”

That is because this is just a scam to make this guy look bad, and it was ALL put together by gay groups wanting to embarrass him. This whole story is wrong. The photographers just “happened” to be there? Why were they so interested in specifically this guy? Yeah, this was all planned out very well!
Well, when you get caught being a total hypocrite, bear false witness to show what kind of Christian you really are.
What kind of fantasy world have you built for yourself?
I knew! I KNEW! I was like that man is GAY.
That’s dumbass
I saw him walkin out with that dude and I was like I KNEW. Everyone said he was a hired companion NOPE I KNEW
He hires a 20-year-old to travel with him, and he didn’t know the history of this kid! Sure he didn’t know. What a joke!!
It appears most of you have not read this whole story. But then again, most of you just want to continue slander on another Christian. There are some really horrible people that post here!
Some of the earlier stories give an explaination of the reporters presence. A friend of “Lucien” told them. If I were a 20 year old escort going to Europe I would make sure I told someone all about the proposed trip. Now how come Dr Rekers hasn’t mentioned the daily massage, that he put into. Lucien’s contract? I find the Doctor’s story quite suspect.
Why would a man with as many contacts and associates and staff let alone friends have to hire a traveling companion from a website? This stinks regardless of how the story broke.
Even if the story is true, it is not news. Christians fall into sin all the time and have to be held accountable for them just like this man will. This is just a smear campaign the whole way. And this man did not tell Rekers he was a male escort, nor has he ever said that they had any sexual contact. Sometimes people just jump on the hate bandwagon.
“Christians fall into sin all the time…” So you don’t see any problem that “if true” it means Dr Rekers lied? You don’t think the regard for his research might suffer — his “research” that has been considered highly questionable (to be charitable) by the psychology community for years and relies on his credibility?
Perhaps the sudden removal of references to his papers at places like NARTH might give you a hint to their view.
I guess by your reasoning Jesus jumped on the hate bandwagon in Matt. 23 and was slandering the scribes and Pharisees?
Bob, no. His research has proven it all on it’s own merits. Many people have been saying what his research has been saying for many years. He is only being singled out because of his affiliation with Focus. There really is nothing new with the things he has said. His position was what gave him the stature to be listened to.
And boy d, Jesus never hated anyone. He only told people their errors so that they could live forever with Him in Heaven. A good Father always rebukes his children.
Bobdavies,
You have just shown that you are wholely ignorant of the research. It fell by its merits, and fell hard. The only large group that has accepted it for the past decade is a fraction of the Christian community that desperately wants the outcome to match what their pastor (not the Bible) has told them. The status of being backed by one of the very few legitamate PhDs (two identified by the Florida AG after a country wide search) to still support this “therapy”. Why so I believe the majority of people would see this as a failed experiment? Because when they understand that a person’s orientation does not change, rather are “overcome” by coping mechanisms through this “therapy” they consider it a failure — because it is advertised as a cure.
If I said I could cure paralysis, except for the not being able to move the arms and legs, you might question my cure. Regardless of the folks I’ve convinced to say they were healed, since they’ve accepted being in a wheelchair.
I do not dispute that the ex-gay ministries help some to cope. They also ravage many by offering a cure they don’t really have.
It is one thing to tell people that God can heal them(which He can if He so choses) and quite another to promote some quackery form of therapy.
bob, only JESUS can “cure” homosexuality. The world created it, and it will always be a sin to deal with. Many people hove sinful sexual desires. It is what these people DO with that desire that makes the difference. I have personally met some of these people, and the only way I can describe what I have seen is “Freedom”. And I have met a few that say they no longer desire homosexual sex in any way. Others have been corrupted so badly mentally that they may never heal from the wounds that lifestyle has caused them.
The whole point is that, unless you are a Christian, you are considered innocent until PROVEN guilty. Nothing has been PROVEN in this case. So it should be left alone until it can be judged on the evidence.
There are no gods. Homosexuality cannot be cured because it is not a disease. Why is Bobdavies so completely ignorant about science.
Homosexuality is COMMON in the animal kingdom. It has nothing to do with sinning or a corrupt society.
And clearly BobDavies you are clueless about the “escort”. Why would anybody hire somebody like that to take a trip.
This must be the true meaning of apologetics..
Christians have no proof of their god.
Chris, if there were no gods, then why are you so much in fear of them that you feel the need to come to every story on religion crying about God? Sounds very desperate. If it were just that you do not believe in God, you would not even come here. It is just very sad.
And again, just like on the other story. THANK YOU for comparing gay lusts to animal lusts. It is just like that, a perversion. Be gay all you want Chris, just stop crying for the acceptance you so desperately want.
