Gayle Haggard is about to have her say on the 2006 sex scandal that led her husband, Ted, to resign as head of New Life Church in Colorado Springs.
Her book, “Why I Stayed: The Choices I Made in My Darkest Hour,” will be released Jan. 26.

Gayle Haggard
While her publisher isn’t allowing her to grant interviews until January, we received a preview of the book, which was co-written by Angela Hunt.
Below are some passages from it. The part about why she stayed with Ted will have to wait for the full book to come out:
GAYLE RECOUNTS THE MOMENT WHEN THE SCANDAL INVOLVING A GAY ESCORT AND TED BEGAN.
“When Ted’s cell phone buzzed, he glanced at the message on the screen, and his countenance changed. He handed me his phone so I could read the text he’d received from a pastor friend. A homosexual ‘escort’ in Denver has leveled an accusation against a nationally known evangelical from Colorado Springs. The escort hadn’t yet identified the man he was accusing; he said he would do that on a Denver radio station the following morning….”
“‘Ted, is there anything to this?’” I searched his eyes as we sat across from each other on our son’s bed. ‘Do you know this man? Don’t let me be surprised.’”
“”I don’t know this man,” he answered.”
THE NEXT DAY, AFTER MIKE JONES REVEALED WHO THE PASTOR WAS, TED MET GAYLE IN THEIR ATTORNEY’S OFFICE, JUST THE TWO OF THEM.
“My heart skipped a beat when I heard the serious tone in his voice. When the door closed behind me, I felt the life begin to drain from my body. I sat down across from Ted at the attorney’s conference table, and as I looked at him, I saw that his expression had changed. This was not the confident man who had entered the building with me only a few moments before. This man’s face had contorted with anguish.
“I sat stunned in my chair as Ted looked at me with the saddest eyes I have ever seen on his face.”
Ted, Gayle,
This is God again.
Using my name to profit is a big no, no.
I’ll be expecting my standard 30% royalty fee. If you have any questions on where to send the check, please contact Moses, the heavenly attorney.
God
Jesus, Barna,
They get everything tax free for calling it a church and now you give them free marketing for the book?
What’s your cut?
Can I be the first to say
I TOLD YOU SO!
It is churches like Ted Haggard’s that force normal well balanced people into the closet.
Homosexuality and heterosexuality are both normal, natural and unchangeable sexual orientations. The American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the National Academy of Science, the United States Supreme Court, 92% of Fortune 500 companies and a growing majority of true christians agree. Including the Lutheran, Episcopalian, Quaker and Mormon churches.
The Libertarian Party even supports full equality for homosexuals…including marriage equality and are currently lobbying congress for the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act and repeal of the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy.
The only organizations that do not believe that homosexuality is normal, natural and unchangeable are some marginalized and discredited christian organization who are pushing agendas of discrimination against the homosexual community based on cherry picked biblical teachings.
That`s cute mr. bear. For your next trick could you please entertain us by riding a bicycle while juggling balls at the same time? An don’t worry my little Teddy Bear. Nobody cares if your gay up here. – God
How sad that we depend so much on religions and pastors that claim to be the sole access to God. Why not go VFR direct to God and bypass the mess that pastors like Ted Haggard create? I feel deep sadness for Gayle Haggard. She is a unwilling victim in this. However, reference her book, frankly I won’t waste my money on it. I would recommend they both get into another line of work.
What has this world become!!!! Who are we to judge? Everyone makes mistakes. I remember Ted would say “I am not going to get you to heaven your bible is” Sooo if you believe he was going to get you there……Who is the one with the issues now????????
This is a great story. It has something juicy and interesting for everyone. For those people who are good normal salt of the earth people they can gasp at far this once respected man fell. For the rest of us; the drinking, smoking, godless masses we can laugh at how ironic it is that these people who believe that being gay is a mental disease had a priest who knowingly lead a gay life style with male prostitute while using meth.
BigBearCO…..When did God start caring what the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the National Academy of Science, the United States Supreme Court, 92% of Fortune 500 companies, the Libertarian Party or man-made religious denominations actually think?????? He doesn’t…period.
God loves all his creation, but he has also put into place certian laws that by his grace we are asked to follow. Scripture is pretty clear on the matter at hand, regardless of how it is twisted by those who say its no longer valid.
She could have left, but chose not to. I don’t think this is about money, but about Gods redemptive love. God bless Ted and Gail!
