This whole story absolutely breaks my heart. I can only imagine the tortuous hell that Ted Haggard has been in for years. And then I can empathize with New Life feeling completely betrayed. I pray that God will be glorified in all of this mess and that all parties will grow closer in their love and commitment to Christ through this terrible situation. Christ came to earth to make right all that sin has made wrong in the world. He came to redeem those of us who have done the things that Ted Haggard has been caught for and the millions of other secret sins that we all hide. I hope each of us will examine our hearts and turn to Christ for his love and redemption.

As a long time member of New Life Church, I am both saddened and angry about Ted's comments in this film. The church did so much for this man before AND after the scandal. Rmember the grand gifts that we all pitched in for your birthday?? The tractor, the camping gear, etc. Other times this church opened up for Ted. After the scandal hit, so many prayed for him and sent good wishes. The church paid him an ENTIRE year's salary. This is especially important to note in light of reduced attendance and lower tithing and collections. Many employees of this church were let go because of the new budget constraints and they certainly did not get a year's salary! So many members were in deep pain over this whole thing. We were mouring the loss of our leader and someone we trusted. Ted's comment are a slap in the face and don't represent what really went on.
Ted, you just don't get it! You were let go because as a leader, you are held to a higher standard. You know that! You simply could not continue in a leadership position when you were cheating on your wife and engaged in illiegal drug use. I suggest you re-visit some of your earlier sermons about personal responsilbility. New Life has NOT told you to go to hell. I pray for Gayle and your family and pray that you will realize that the one person responsible for you feeling like a loser is the one in the mirror.
